Day 1: Cusco – Abra Malaga (Down Hill) – Santa Maria (Rafting)
This first day of adventure starts from the city of Cusco. We will descend until the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our transportation will take us until the highest point of the route, at 4,300 meters. From here we will start with our adventurous activities.
From the highest point of the Andes mountain range, we will descend with our suitable bikes downhill for approximately 3 hours, enjoying beautiful landscapes. Here we will feel the cool air encapsulate us at the summit of the mountains. However we will continue with our exciting trip. This activity will take place on an asphalt road. On this path we will cross closed curves, descending streams from the steep mountains. If you don’t have much experience with bicycles and are scared to go fast, don’t worry! The group will all go at different speeds. The group will go at different speeds. If you still aren’t comfortable, the transportation can take you to make you feel more safe. The whole group will have great protection equipment. We will give you integral helmets, knee-pads, gloves, elbow-pads and chest and back protection.
After biking, we will eat lunch. After we will have time to rest in the houses of the locals and take a small nap.
The specialized guide for rafting will meet the entire group, and embark on the transportation together for 25 minutes until arriving at las orillas del rio. The guide will offer information about this activity and provide the rafting equipment and we will start the adventure! The river’s level changes throughout the year, the fast class 2 and 3 are perfect for this adventure. Sometimes the river will seem deceptively calm, but will actually be more intense than it originally seems. We will raft until sunset where we will have time to change clothes before the fresh air of the night arrives. After we will arrive in Santa Maria to eat dinner and finally rest until the next day in order to regain our strength for the following adventure on the Inka trail in the jungle.
Inka Jungle Day 2: Walking on the Inca Trail and thermal baths.
The second day will take place on the Inca trail in the Peruvian jungle. This hike is 21 kilometers long. At the beginning we will hike on a dusty path. Then we will take a detour and get lost in the jungle. The climate is hot and humid. After experiencing the absence of cars we will observe cultivated coca leaves (legal), cacao, avacados, oranges, lemons, bananas, pineapples and much more. The guide will provide us with more information about the cultivation and the small communities of people that populate the jungle that you can see in the middle of the jungle. We will get to try the fresh chocolate made by the local people and also try inca tequila, a medicinal plant drink.
At noon we will descend to the local town of Q’Uellomayo to eat lunch and relax our legs. Later we will see a river where we will cross by a local cable car. The local people pull the ropes to get to the other side. From there we will continue on the trail and arrive at the thermal baths of Cocalmayo. These waters are medicinal, crystalline, hot and very clean due to the water not being stagnant. There are orifices that allows the water to flow underneath and join with the principal river. After we will relax in the thermal baths. Then we will get on the local transport that will arrive in approximately 15 minutes to the town of Santa Teresa. The trail in the jungle doesn’t end here, we will arrive to the town of Santa Teresa where we will stay in the houses of the local people. At night, the guide will get all guests of the group for dinner and give instructions for the following day. Right after, turn off your lights and the show will begin. We will be invited to participate in a welcoming party. You can stay as long as you wish, but remember that the adventure will continue the next morning.
Inka Jungle Day 3 – Santa Teresa (zip line) – Hidroelectrica walk – Aguas Calientes
This day we will wake up slightly later than the other days. After breakfast another guide will accompany the group from the zip lining company. We will wait to board the transportation. Here we will also be accompanied by our original guide. We will arrive to the base of the zipline. The guide will gives us instructions for this activity. Now we will start with our next adventure by climbing a mountain until it’s highest point. From here the guide will get the equipment ready and we will descend on the ropes. You don’t want to miss out on this experience! When you are at the highest point you can see all the trees and rivers, all looking very small. From this point you will garner your braveness and feel the tingliness in your feet racing to your heart and then to your head. The first cable is the the hardest but the rest are very easy and you will feel like superman with your head down. After we will return to the base where the transportation will be waiting for us. Then we will go to a restaurant for lunch. After we will walk along the train tracks for approximately 2 and a half hours. Don’t be nervous, this walk will be done with a guide and the passing trains aren’t frequent. No more than 2 trains pass by per day. The greenish river will accompany you the entire walk. The whole path leading up to the town of Machu Picchu is flat. The connection that you will feel with nature is amazing all the way leading up to Aguas Calientes, or the town of Machu Picchu. The guide will take you to your hostels so that you can take a shower and relax until dinner. This city is beautiful. The best part is that there are no cars in this city. The town is very tranquil, and wonderful to experience at night. Later we will reunite in the restaurant where the guide will give us new recommendations for the following day. The guide will give us our entrance tickets to Machu Picchu, tourist trains and information for the people that will return by car to the city of Cusco. This night everyone will go to bed early in order to be ready and full of yearning to visit the historic site of Machu Picchu.
Inka Jungle Day 4 – The Marvelous world of Machu Picchu
This day we will wake up at the crack of dawn, 4:30 am. We will start the walk from Aguas Calientes until the entrance of Machu Picchu. The path is tiring because you are climbing Incan stairs. Upon arriving at the control point of Machu Picchu the guide will be waiting to reunite the whole group. We will give our tickets and original passports to the people working the entrance gates of Machu Picchu. Once everyone has been identified, the guide will once again reunite the group and we will start the exciting walk toward Machu Picchu after four days full of adventure. On the tour there are people with tickets for Machu Picchu and/or Wayna Picchu. These additional treks are located in the same archealogical center of Machu Picchu and are additional costs.
